Zhou Dasheng's public service page confirms that gold and platinum jewelry old-for-new service exists, but it does not publish one universal fee table. The charge depends on what the store treats as old-gold value, what new item you choose, and whether your item meets the store's service conditions.
Separate old-gold recovery from a new purchase
Chow Tai Seng member service terms lists gold and platinum jewelry old-for-new service and says service documents include the sales receipt or invoice, inspection certificate and customer service booklet. It does not say that every third-party gold item is accepted, nor does it publish one fixed processing fee.
In practice, ask the store to quote these items separately:
- Old item assessment: metal type, purity, actual weight after inspection and any deduction or non-accepted parts.
- Old-gold credit or recovery value: the store's written buyback or exchange credit for that day.
- New item price: whether the new jewelry is priced by gram, fixed price, craft premium or a promotional package.
- Service charges: labor, craft fee, depreciation, inspection, rework or any minimum-price requirement.
Calculate the difference without counting fees twice
Use this structure: amount to pay = new jewelry price + stated fees - old-gold credit. If the store quotes only the final difference, ask it to show the weight, purity, unit value and fee line items. That makes it clear whether you are receiving a gold-recycling quote, an old-for-new promotion, or a normal purchase after separate recovery.
For example, suppose a written quote gives an old-gold credit of RMB 4,000, a new item price of RMB 5,000 and a separate RMB 200 labour charge. The difference is RMB 1,200. If the RMB 5,000 is already an all-inclusive price, the difference is RMB 1,000 instead. These are hypothetical figures, not the brand’s current rates.
Before destructive purity testing or melting, record the item’s weight and condition and agree how it will be returned if you decline the final offer. Check whether an exchange credit is usable only toward a qualifying new purchase: it may not be withdrawable as cash.
If the gold was not bought from Zhou Dasheng, do not assume acceptance. The official page supports the existence of the service, but the specific conditions for outside-brand gold, invoices, certificates and testing must come from the target store's written quote.
